Srinagar
Sometimes, the journey is as breathtaking as the destination—and that’s exactly how I felt on the trek to Tarsar and Marsar Lakes. Tucked high in the Kashmir Valley, these twin lakes seem to exist in a world of their own, where the earth meets the sky and everything else falls away.
The path to Tarsar starts in the meadows, surrounded by wildflowers and the soft hum of the wind. As we ascended, the air grew crisper, the colors more vibrant, and the world around us turned into an untouched, dreamlike landscape. After a day of trekking, the first glimpse of Tarsar Lake took my breath away—its waters reflecting the snow-capped peaks above, almost as if the sky had spilled into the ground. It felt like standing at the edge of the world, where everything was pure and still.
But the true magic of the lakes lies in their duality. Marsar Lake, just a little higher, is equally stunning—its waters surrounded by jagged cliffs, framed by a halo of snow. While Tarsar feels soft and inviting, Marsar has an edge, as if it holds the secrets of the mountains in its depths.
If you're up for an adventure that takes you off the beaten path, and you long for a place that feels untouched by time, Tarsar and Marsar are waiting. They don’t just show you the beauty of Kashmir—they show you how vast and humbling nature can be.
