Srinagar
If Kashmir is the land of unmatched beauty, then Chandanwari is one of its most peaceful corners. Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, just a few kilometers from Pahalgam, Chandanwari feels like the beginning of something sacred. It’s a place where the air smells of pine, the mountains stand tall and proud, and the land seems to breathe in rhythm with nature.
Chandanwari is perhaps most famous as the starting point for the Amarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage that draws thousands of devotees every year. But beyond its religious significance, it’s a spot that invites you to pause, to breathe, and to simply be.
When I visited, the valley was still waking up from winter. The snow-capped peaks surrounding Chandanwari reflected the soft morning light, casting a peaceful glow on everything below. The river flowed calmly, its waters clear and cold, while the meadows were just beginning to show hints of green, as if the earth was slowly stretching after a long sleep.
As I stood on the banks of the river, I realized that Chandanwari is about much more than a destination—it’s about journey. The path ahead, whether for pilgrims or travelers like me, leads to something greater. It’s a space to reflect, to connect with the natural world, and to discover a quiet peace you won’t find in the hustle of city life.
Locals greeted me with smiles, their faces warm and welcoming despite the cold mountain air. Chandanwari, with its simple beauty and untouched landscapes, feels like a place where life is lived slowly, where people are rooted in nature and in faith.
if you ever find yourself in Kashmir, make your way to Chandanwari. It’s not just the beginning of a pilgrimage—it’s the beginning of finding peace, within and around you.
